The Saudi Pro League Association and SAIP start raising clubs awareness to protect intellectual property



The Saudi Pro League Association (SPL), in cooperation with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, (SAIP), hold an induction workshop on intellectual property, for the clubs on how to benefit from the intellectual property and how to reserve their rights, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Riyadh, in the attendance of the representatives of the clubs of both, Prince Mohammed bin Salman League Cup and Prince Mohammed Bin Salman First Division League.
Engineer Sami Al Sudais, Vice President of SAIP for Intellectual Property Policy and Enforcement Affairs, announced that SAIP decided to form a national committee includes several governmental bodies, supervisory and security, as well as judiciary, to achieve maximum intellectual protection in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also pointed out that SAIP, through its partnership with the SPL Association, is keen to clarify the impact of preserving the brand of clubs, that would double their financial revenues, and aware them of the importance of promoting consumer confidence, which is related with the logos and the identities of the clubs.
After that, a number of legal experts from SAIP explained the legal aspects and procedures that clubs should follow in order to preserve their rights and the mechanism of registration of logos and protection of their acquisitions through the SAIP website.

While the SPL Association reviewed a number of irregularities committed outside the stadiums by non-regular vendors, and ways to the clubs must follow to avoid.
For his part, Sultan Al Saad, marketing official of SPL Association, said that the partnership signed with the SAIP is of utmost importance, especially with regard to the conservation of clubs rights, which is one of the main roles of the Association towards clubs, noting that the current period is within the awareness period, which will last until the end of the season, as the awareness campaign will be expanded to include the sports fans and investors in the sport, before entering into the enforcement phase, which includes joint campaigns with the concerned authorities to start prosecuting the infringers on the rights of clubs judicially and legally, all of these steps will be announced in due course.
Must be noted, that The Saudi League Association signed a memorandum of understanding with SAIP last December to raise awareness and respect for intellectual property rights, including trademarks, through the establishment of induction workshops, as well as the establishment of courses for club professionals to register and protect intellectual property rights of their clubs, and to access the sports community and promote the concept of intellectual property, in order to reduce violations of intellectual property rights and to take action to address the financial waste of clubs.
